Abstract

Nurses are the largest group of providers in the health care industry and are responsible for maintaining safety through effective teamwork and collaboration. This presentation discusses a quasi-experimental study conducted at a hospital in South Central Texas investigating the effects of TeamSTEPPS® education on nurses’ ability to communicate effectively. Late Breaking Reason: This study revealed improvement in nurses’ attitudes toward teamwork and communication following education which has implications for nursing and patient safety through education, administrative and leadership support, effective role modeling by nursing leadership, and continued focus on integrating communication and teamwork skills among healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes.
