Abstract
Purpose: A purpose of this study is to establish a learning support program that makes currently working visiting nurses their respiratory physical assessment skills utilize, and to evaluate the efficacy of that program.
Methods: This study was a randomized controlled trial in which currently working visiting 57 nurses were randomly assigned to one of the two groups; the control group in which nurses would not have received any special support after training session and the experimental group in which nurses would have received support to utilize the knowledge and skills that had learned in the learning support program at their workplace.
Results: The average score of the practical examination was significantly elevated after the training session compared with that of before session. In the experimental group, the average score at eight weeks after the session did not show significantly higher compared with that just after the session. After eight weeks, the average score of the experimental groups was not significantly higher than that of the control group. By the investigation of daily clinical practice seven weeks after the training session, the practice evaluation score did not show significantly higher than that of three weeks after the session neither in the experimental group nor in the control group. The average practice evaluation score of the experimental group and that of the control group were not significantly different seven weeks after the training session. About the evaluation of the learning support program, the mean of the satisfaction score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group.
Conclusion: It was suggested that the support from others was effective to maintain motivation for the learning and to make use of knowledge and skills that acquired by the respiratory physical assessment training session in practice.
