Abstract

Special Session presented on: Monday, November 18, 2013:

As health care shifts from acute care management to creating a culture of health, from hospital- based to community- based care, and from providing local to global health services, nurse educators must be prepared to transform nursing education systems to prepare graduates for these realities. Transforming education systems will create a need to reconceptualize the role of the nurse educator. This session will discuss the driving forces for change, the educational preparation and retooling required of nurse educators to meet these challenges, and the disruptive leadership needed within nursing education to re-envision the role of the educator and assure that graduates of nursing programs can provide safe and high quality care.
