Abstract

Special Session presented on: Sunday, November 17, 2013:

One of the major forces shaping healthcare and nursing informatics today are big data needs in personalized healthcare, measuring quality and outcomes of care throughout the patient continuum, and the involvement of the consumer in healthcare and information technology. In addition there have been five revolutions in informatics that have impacted nursing IT: 1) the mainframe, 2) the minicomputer, 3) networked personal computers, 4) the world wide web (WWW), and 5) mobile networks. In this session the audience will be challenged with recommendations in nursing policy, education, and consumer involvement to improve healthcare access, safety, efficiency and effectiveness, and to measure improvements in quality healthcare and outcomes using information technology.
