Abstract
Session presented on: Monday, November 18, 2013: Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of mortality in the United States. In order to raise awareness and provide education as well as resources to prevent morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease, the Department of Health and Human Services launched the Million Hearts TM initiative in 2011 with the goal of preventing one million heart attacks and strokes over a 5 year time period. This symposium is designed to (1) describe the Million Hearts TM initiative and demonstrate a Million Hearts TM screening, (2) highlight the National Interprofessional Education Consortium to advance Million Hearts TM with its free online Million Hearts TM educational module for health professionals and health professional students, and (3) demonstrate ways to integrate Million Hearts TM into interprofessional education and community outreach.
