Abstract

The family is a living open system characterized by pattern and organization. While the rate of change in pattern and organization varies throughout the life cycle of the family, few periods involve the rapid and extensive repatterning and reorganization present in pregnancy. Empirical evidence suggests that changes in body image occur during and after pregnancy in both wives and husbands. The study designed to test the hypotheses used a sample of fifty married couples who attended Lamaze preparation for childbirth classes.
