Abstract

Having a child with a disability is experienced as the loss of the illusion or ";perfect"; child and has a powerful and continued impact upon the mother. This interpretative phenomenological research guided by Patricia Benner's (1994) methodology, and a philosophical perspective of feminism, explored the world of mothers caring for children with disabilities. The research question was "What is the nature of having a child with a disability for the mother?"
