Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe and examine the relationships between physical suffering and nonphysical suffering with spiritual transformation in patients with HF. Physical suffering was measured by severity of illness, symptom prevalence, and burden (symptom frequency, severity, distress); nonphysical suffering was measured by social isolation. Spiritual transformation was measured by spiritual growth, a change in worldview, priorities, sense of self, and faith-based relationships following hospitalization.
