Abstract
Health communication plays a significant role in patient care. Ever increasing importance is attached to health communication research. To offer top clinical and top referent care, effective and efficient communication between healthcare providers is required. As such, health communication may occur in multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary settings, dimensions that need to be addressed in research. Furthermore, communication impacts all six healthcare quality domains, as defined by the Institute of Medicine: safety, timeliness, effectiveness, equity, efficiency and patient-centeredness.
