Abstract
Central-line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) are serious central-line complications that could eventually lead to morbidity and mortality if not treated (Poh et al., 2020). The purpose of this quality improvement evidence-based practice project is to develop a comprehensive intervention to decrease CLABSI rates. The clinical practice question is what is the impact of central venous catheter bundling (decreasing central line access and return demonstration) and the use of a closed access system on CLABSI rates in the pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit? Patricia Benner developed a concept known as From Novice to Expert; this theory describes an understanding of patient care through a strong educational foundation and personal experiences.
