Abstract

Childhood obesity is a major public health crisis nationally and internationally (Karnik & Danekar, 2012). The prevalence of childhood obesity has continued to increase causing a rise in several comorbidities at an early age. These comorbidities include but are not limited to hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, and psychosocial problems. These chronic diseases will likely persist into adulthood.
