Abstract

The purpose of this evidence-based improvement project was to evaluate the performance of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) in identifying PPD and/or anxiety. The guiding question for the DNP Project was as follows: In a postpartum population, does the EPDS provide earlier identification of postpartum depression and/or anxiety for postpartum patients presenting at the two through six-week postpartum visit than the PHQ-9?
