Abstract
The revised NPD Practice Model provides NPD practitioners with a conceptual framework for NPD practice and an opportunity to apply the model in their institution and individual practice. Use of the model can help to clarify and communicate the role and ROI of NPD in an organization. The model will be reviewed along with the rationale for use/application. Strategies for applying the model in NPD practice that will be presented include use with data for planning NPD (environmental scanning, assessment of practice gaps, identification of learning needs); orientation and development of NPD practitioners and others; department structure and reporting; development of position descriptions; identification of outcomes; and advocacy for NPD. Challenges and barriers to implementation of the model will be discussed. Case scenarios of application of the NPD model in one institution will be presented and critiqued by the audience. The audience will have opportunity to present their own ideas for and experiences with application of the NPD Practice Model.
