Abstract

This project has a three-pronged purpose: 1. Improve compliance with sepsis bundles. 2. Improve early recognition of possible SIRS/Sepsis and reduce sepsis mortality. 3. Improve times in obtaining labs, lactate, 2 blood cultures, IV access, IV fluid resuscitation and initiating antibiotics by 80%. Sepsis is the number one cause of mortality in hospitals nationwide. Our hospital system has identified sepsis mortality reduction as a top priority. Early recognition and treatment through improving sepsis bundle compliance was the selected focus in our 40-bed emergency department.
