Abstract

Integration of the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) in the Pediatric RN Transition to Practice Program allowed fellows to understand the complexities and dynamics of the hospitalized patient. Application of the four cornerstones of the RAM created opportunities for the Pediatric RN fellows to connect with the pediatric patient and the caregiver while learning how their care is integrated in the patient's development, sense of self, and overall wellness. The fellows benefitted from cultivating relationships with their patients and families by being able to connect on a holistic level while also exhibiting professional development in their new specialty setting.

Description

This multi-site health care system utilizes the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) within its Specialty RN Transition to Practice (TTP) Program. The Pediatric RN TTP fellow benefits from the use of RAM, which is integrated throughout a 28-week fellowship including didactic, experiential, and professional development learning opportunities. Use of RAM prepares the Pediatric RN fellow to communicate with patients and their families or caregivers from a holistic perspective allowing them to care for the family unit physically, emotionally, and socially.
