Effects of weighted blankets on anxiety for pediatric oncology patients during outpatient chemotherapy infusions

Abstract

  • Aim 1: Does the utilization of a weighted blanket on pediatric outpatients receiving chemotherapy reduce anxiety as measured by the Children’s Anxiety Meter-State (CAM-S)?
  • Hypothesis: The use of a weighted blanket in this population will reduce anxiety.
  • Aim 2: Assess quality of life in this population and compare between visits and between groups.
  • Hypothesis: Quality of life will increase between visits and quality of life will be higher for those who started with weighted blankets first and standard care second.
  • Aim 3: Describe the use of the weighted blanket in the population during their infusion treatment.
  • Hypothesis: Participants will use weighted blankets for at least 40% of their infusion treatment.
