Abstract

Transition from student to clinical practice as a new registered nurse can be overwhelming. The coronavirus pandemic has compounded the usual stressors and puts new graduates at high risk for stress, compassion fatigue and burnout. Nurse colleagues can mentor and support these new graduates through this transition. This document guides nurses mentoring new graduates during the pandemic, focusing on helping them with communication skills, encouraging proactive wellness and mindfulness strategies and supporting them through the challenging stressors they are facing.
