Stress and coping strategies among dyads managing cardiovascular disease
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between resourcefulness and health outcomes (depressive symptoms and quality of life) in a dyadic context for persons with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and their care partners. Specifically, we (1) compared persons with CVD’s and care partners’ resourcefulness and health outcomes, (2) examined the relationship between persons with CVD and care partners’ resourcefulness and health outcomes at the actor and partner levels, and (3) explored how persons with CVD and their care partners appraise stressful situations and use coping strategies, including resourcefulness skills, to maintain their overall health.
