Abstract

The purpose of this evidence-based practice review is to investigate the effects of lung-protective ventilation strategies on oxygenation in the obese patient undergoing a general anesthetic with endotracheal tube. A population, intervention, comparison, and outcome (PICO) question was used to provide the clinical framework, "In the obese patient undergoing a general anesthetic with endotracheal tube (P), what effect does lung-protective ventilation (I) compared to conventional ventilation (C) have on oxygenation (O)?"
