Abstract

Introduction: The American Cancer Society states that the probability of developing invasive cancer among Hispanics / Latinos during certain age groups by sex in the United States 2010 - 2012, and colorectal cancer, is among the first five (1) probability of suffering from this disease in Colombia according to data for 2012 according to the World Health Organization (WHO) has an incidence for men of 2632 (7.7%), mortality 1480 (7.9%) and third place in cancer in the case of women with an incidence of 3031 (8.2%) mortality of 1727 (9.1%) (1), figures of concern, since they show an intimate relationship with the global statistics that colorectal cancer generating with the patient and his family fears and ignorance of the management of his illness. Objective: To describe in the scientific literature results of research with self-management in adults with colorectal cancer in surgical treatment. Methodology: A systematic search was carried out with the terms DECs: Cancer and Colorectal and Self Managnet, in databases Proquest, Pubmed, Virtual Health Library (VHL), Ovid Nursing, 30 articles were selected original research product, published in the last 10 years, that were in full text and that gave answer to the topic of interest, these were submitted to critical reading with the methodology CASPe (Critical Apraissal Skills Program Spanish). Results: Nursing plays a key role in the surgical treatment approach, and especially when it comes to programs focused on the self-management of patients with chronic noncommunicable diseases, there are few studies focused on the patient with colorectal cancer. But if studies are proposed where nursing care should take into account the particular needs of all patients in order to teach them and their families how to provide effective self-management, to solve health problems and to meet the needs of patient care (2).
