Abstract

The burden of trauma has significantly shifted from fatal to non-fatal injuries. There is an urgency to capture external causes of non-fatal injuries across two coding systems. An algorithm was created to capture unstructured data within ER narratives. The design served as a framework to standardize ER narrative text.
