A New Model to Advance Scholarship in Nursing Education [Symposium]

Abstract

Session presented on Saturday, April 9, 2016:

The Practice of Teaching, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), and Nursing Education Research are essential to academic roles and programs. Yet, the distinction between categories is often unclear. This session will review the literature on Boyer's (1990) educational theory as a beginning framework for the SOTL and then move forward to present the need for a new model to support development at all levels of scholarship (Practice of Teaching, SOTL, and Nursing Education Research).
The presenters will engage the audience in a discussion of current terminology and how this impacts the discipline, evolving theory, and the advancing needs of nursing education.
