Abstract

Over the past several decades, the rate of opioid prescriptions and opioid-related deaths have increased significantly. The United States has been experiencing an opioid crisis, placing safety and economic burdens on healthcare systems across the nation. The opioid epidemic in the United States has led to an increase in opioid-related deaths by 1040% from 2013 to 2019 resulting in new government legislation and changes to the physician reimbursement plans.
